Greeting

Welcome everyone!

I am Jung Joo-im, the President of the Old House Management Center, who creates the old houses into new cultural spaces.
Andong, a city of World Heritage, is a treasure trove of historical and cultural resources.
Its meaning has become even more solid as it has been designated as a World Heritage site recognized for its universal value in three categories.

The Old House Management Center began with the thought of how to utilize the historical and cultural resources of our region, as the old saying goes, “It is a treasure only when beads are put together.”

The old houses may have been unused treasure of our region for a long time.
There are so many of them around us that we pass our time not recognizing their value in encountering them as often but unmanaged spaces.

Now, it is time to find the true face of ‘treasure’ for old houses in our area.
If people who cherish and love old houses gather to understand the space, and the owners of families that are difficult to manage actively take the lead in consignment, we respect the culture of the old house and spare no effort in finding directions and methods for changing into various spaces.

If people stay there and it becomes polished space, we expect that the landscape of Andong will change in near future.

Andong, which boosts up its large land area in South Korea,
I hope that the old houses where the footsteps of this vast land of Andong meet will be a warm scene. Even if it’s a long bus journey, I hope you have the pleasure of looking at the scenery outside the old house.

We ask for encouragement and participation from old house managers and owners who will discover and expand local old houses as cultural resources with the Old House Management Center.

Thank you.

Old House Management Center Director
